Hello, dearest “Pinoys in NZ” readers. We are sharing the touching journey of one of our community members, Melody Wong.
It’s a story of strength, belief, and the powerful support of community and faith.
Today, Melody met with the doctors and learned news that changed everything: she has Stage 4 Hodgkin Lymphoma.
This is a type of blood cancer that spreads through the lymphatic system, and now it’s spread to other parts of her body, making it Stage 4. It’s a lot to handle, but Melody wants everyone to know that this situation is not related to her daughter’s earlier fight with brain cancer.
This is just her path to navigate.
Finding Strength and Thanks
From the start, Melody had a feeling that cancer was part of her journey. She prayed every day, hoping it could be something she could treat and manage. And her prayers were heard—the cancer is treatable. It’s not going to be easy, but there’s hope. Melody is grateful that it’s her facing this and not her family, her children, her friends, or their children. She sees this as a challenge given to her, a test of her faith.
Faith as Her Guide
Melody has always believed deeply, and even in facing this challenge, her faith grows stronger. “God is testing my faith,” she says, but her trust in Him is unwavering. She’s been through medical journeys before with her daughter, and now she takes those lessons to her own fight. She continues to pray, calling God her Healer and Creator, giving her life to His divine plan.
A Community’s Love
The love and kindness from her community mean the world to Melody. When she came home today, she took a bold step—she shaved her head. This was her way of saying, “I’m ready.” This act came right after they celebrated her daughter Tala’s completion of her treatment. 🎉💛
Melody’s heart is full of thanks for everyone who has been there: those who have visited, sent words of encouragement, and especially all the kababayans who stood by her during hospital visits. The healthcare workers and fellow Pinoys have shown immense support, and Melody feels deeply blessed to have you as part of her journey.
Looking Forward: Living Life Fully
Melody is determined to live life fully and embraces every day with hope. She believes that with God’s love, anything is possible. As she starts this new chapter, she knows she’s not alone. Each message, each prayer, brings light to her journey.
Together, as a community, we walk with Melody and her family, ready to stand by them.
