Our Filipino community in New Zealand is growing stronger and faster than ever.
According to the latest data, there are now over 100,000 Filipinos living and working across Aotearoa, making us one of the largest and most vibrant Asian communities in the country. From Auckland to Invercargill, we bring with us our bayanihan spirit, love for family, food, and music — and our joy in celebrating together.
A Celebration of Culture and Connection
Pistang Pilipino, the biggest annual Filipino festival in New Zealand, is a proud tradition that brings our people together every Labour Weekend.
Initiated by the Federation of Filipino Associations, Societies and Clubs in New Zealand Inc. (FFASCNZI), this national event showcases Filipino culture through music, dance, food, sports, pageants, and the shared joy of being Pinoy.
This 2025, the spotlight shines on Christchurch, as the Filipino community of the South Island prepares to host Pistang Pilipino 2025 – PINAS-SAYA!
Organised by the Philippine Culture and Migrant Services Trust (PCMST) in partnership with FFASCNZI, the festival will run from October 25 to 26 and promises two unforgettable days filled with colour, laughter, and unity.
The theme “Pinas-Saya” beautifully captures our community’s joyful heart — a reminder that even far from home, we carry the warmth, faith, and resilience that define who we are as Filipinos.
A Walk Down Memory Lane
Having lived in New Zealand for over 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of attending Pistang Pilipino in Auckland, Tauranga, and Rotorua in previous years.
Each event has its own flavour — the energy, the smiles, the smell of freshly grilled BBQ, and the sound of laughter that feels like home.
These gatherings have always been more than just festivals.
They’re reunions of hearts — a celebration of how far we’ve come as a people who left our homeland to create better lives abroad, yet never lost touch with our roots.
This Year: Let’s Support Our Filipino Businesses 🇵🇭💼
As our community continues to grow, so does the number of Filipino-owned businesses making their mark in New Zealand — from food stalls and cafés to wellness brands, education providers, and digital entrepreneurs.
That’s why I’m personally inviting everyone to support our local Filipino entrepreneurs during this year’s Pistang Pilipino in Christchurch.
