I used to set New Year’s resolutions every year, but after a few weeks, I’d get frustrated because I couldn’t stick to them. I’d get annoyed with myself, feeling like a failure. Have you ever felt that way? You’re not alone. Most people give up on setting goals after a few failed attempts because they don’t achieve them. But guess what? There’s a better way to set goals that actually work—and I’m excited to share it with you.
1. Set Specific, Measurable, and Achievable Goals
Why it fails: Resolutions like “I want to be healthier” or “I want to be rich” are too broad. Without clear direction, it’s hard to stay focused and track progress.
Tip: Break your big goal down into smaller, specific actions you can take each day. For example, instead of saying, “I want to be healthier,” try “I will walk 30 minutes every day for the next month.” It’s clear, measurable, and achievable.
Action Plan: Write down your goal, then break it into bite-sized steps. Set a timeline and check your progress regularly. Celebrate each small win along the way!
2. Create a Vision That Inspires You
Why it fails: Many resolutions are made out of guilt or pressure from others, which means they lack true passion and motivation.
Tip: When you create a vision that aligns with your values and excites you, you’re more likely to stay committed. A powerful vision will pull you toward your goal even when things get tough.
Action Plan: Visualize the life you want to create. Write it down and be specific about how it will make your life better. Keep your vision visible and read it every day for motivation.
3. Commit to Consistent Action
Why it fails: Most people quit because they don’t see instant results, and they lose belief in themselves.
Tip: The key is consistency. Small, daily actions build up over time and lead to big results. Believe in yourself, even on the days when it feels tough.
Action Plan: Start small. Commit to one daily action that moves you closer to your goal. Track your progress, and celebrate even the smallest wins. This will keep you motivated.
I’ve learned that the key to achieving goals isn’t about making big resolutions at the start of the year—it’s about setting clear, inspiring goals and taking consistent action. Trust me, I’ve been there, and once I discovered this method, everything changed. If you’ve given up on New Year’s resolutions in the past, now’s the time to try something different.
I said I wanted to buy my first home and start my property investing journey—and I just got started. I took massive action, and that’s why we’re creating an environment and network in our Pinoys in NZ community for people who want to grow.
