Tulungan, Hindi Hilahan: Creating More Pathways to Prosper in New Zealand
At Pinoys in NZ, one of the values we want to keep strengthening is simple:
Tulungan, hindi hilahan.
Let us support the people around us, cheer them on, and be genuinely happy for their success. At the same time, let us choose to surround ourselves with people who want to see us grow too.
Life in New Zealand can be full of opportunity, but it can also feel expensive and overwhelming. Many of us are working hard, raising families, paying mortgages or rent, supporting loved ones in the Philippines, and trying to create a more secure future.
That is why Pinoys in NZ has always aimed to do more than help our kababayans settle here.
We want to help our community prosper faster through useful information, real conversations, trusted connections, and opportunities that may open new possibilities.
Last year, we organised webinars and live seminars about first-home buying, property investing, and property co-investment in New Zealand. The feedback was encouraging because many attendees came with the same questions and doubts:
“Akala ko hindi ko pa kaya bumili ng first home.”
“Kailangan ba talaga ng malaking deposit?”
“Property investing is only for rich people, right?”
“May way ba to start even if I cannot buy an investment property on my own yet?”
Through these conversations, many people realised that there are different property pathways worth learning about. Not everyone will be ready to buy now, and property investing is not for every person. But learning how the system works can help people make clearer and more informed decisions when the right time comes.
For us, this is not simply an idea we share because it sounds good.
We have personally participated in three property co-investments and have been happy with the results so far. These experiences gave us a deeper, real-life understanding of the process: the importance of doing due diligence, knowing the numbers, choosing the right people to work with, understanding the risks, and having a long-term mindset.
We are not presenting co-investment as a shortcut or a guaranteed outcome. Every investment has risks, and every person’s financial position, goals, borrowing capacity, and risk tolerance are different. It is important to do your own research and seek independent legal, financial, and lending advice before making any decision.
But we also believe that lived experience is valuable.
Sometimes, the first step is not buying a property immediately.
Sometimes, the first step is simply learning.
Learning what property co-investment actually means.
Learning what questions to ask before considering it.
Learning how deposits, equity, lending, ownership structures, and timelines work.
Learning about both the potential risks and opportunities.
Learning what may be possible for your own situation in the future.
We want to create a safe space for our kababayans to ask these questions, hear from people with real experience, and understand the options available without pressure.
